McCloud Falls

Three distinct waterfalls connected by one riverside trail. Start at the lower falls — there's a natural swimming hole at the base — and work your way up.

Three Waterfalls, One Easy Trail

A short drive east of the Inn, the McCloud River tumbles over three distinct waterfalls — Lower, Middle, and Upper Falls — strung together by a scenic riverside trail through the forest. Each fall has its own character: Lower Falls is a gentle cascade above a swimming hole that's a local summer favorite; Middle Falls is the dramatic centerpiece, a wide curtain of water plunging into a deep pool; and Upper Falls races through a narrow chute high in the canyon.

The beauty of McCloud Falls is how easy it is to enjoy at any pace: the mostly-flat trail links all three, but each waterfall also has its own parking area and short path to a viewpoint, so you can hike the whole route or simply drive from one to the next. With swimming, fishing, picnic spots, and even glimpses of Mount Shasta along the way, it's one of the most rewarding and family-friendly outings in our region.
