Faery Falls

A moss-covered cascade hidden in the old ruins of Ney Springs. Short trail, quiet spot, worth finding — can get slippery near the water.

Faery Falls

A Hidden Waterfall in the Woods

A little off the beaten path near Lake Siskiyou, Faery Falls is one of the area's loveliest hidden gems: a roughly 50-foot waterfall that fans down a mossy rock face deep in a forested canyon. The short hike (under a mile and a half round trip) follows an old dirt road through the trees and passes the ruins of Ney Springs Resort, a 19th-century mineral-springs retreat, before a final spur drops you to the creekside at the foot of the falls.

It's an easy, family-friendly outing with an huge payoff, and quiet enough that you may have the falls to yourself. The waterfall is at its most spectacular in spring and early summer when snowmelt has the creek running full; by late summer the flow can thin quite a bit, so it's best enjoyed earlier in the season. A short, scenic drive from the Inn makes it a perfect half-day escape into the woods.
