Mt. Eddy & Deadfall Lakes
Sub-alpine lakes on the way up, the highest peak in the Klamath Mountains at the top. One of the area's great full-day hikes.

Backcountry Lakes and Big Views
Across the valley from Mount Shasta, in the quieter Trinity Divide range to the west, lies one of the area's great backcountry rewards. A trail from the Parks Creek trailhead follows the Pacific Crest Trail through wildflower-strewn meadows to the Deadfall Lakes. These deep, clear alpine lakes are perfect for a swim, a picnic, or a backpacking basecamp.
Those with the legs for it can climb the trail to the summit of Mount Eddy at just over 9,000 feet, the highest peak west of I-5 and home to what many consider the finest view in Northern California: a sweeping panorama that takes in Mount Shasta, the Trinity Alps, and ridgelines of the Klamath Mountains. This is a true mountain day, best from mid-summer into fall once the high-country snow has melted, and rewards every bit of the effort it asks.
