Where to stay with kids: Rooms and suites for the whole crew
We designed our accommodations to give traveling families the exact real-world logistics they need, focusing heavily on floor space to unwind, practical amenities, and flexible layouts. For families looking for a classic, comfortable, and cost-effective base camp with plenty of space to unpack, our traditional double queen rooms are a fantastic option.
If your crew could use a little more separation (and what family couldn't!), our specialized suites provide the perfect layout. The Bunk Suite is a definitive crowd-pleaser, featuring a comfortable king bed for the adults and a full-over-queen bunk bed that gives the kids a fun space of their own. For even more privacy, our Family Suite offers two entirely separate bedrooms, which is a true luxury when traveling with children who have very different bedtimes. For large families or extended stays, the Premier Suite functions just like a small apartment, coming fully equipped with a king bed, a bunk bed, a sleeper sofa, and a dedicated dining table.
No matter which layout you choose, every single room and suite on the property comes equipped with a mini-fridge and a microwave, which are crucial for snack-dependent kids. We also provide genuinely fast WiFi for easy evening streaming after a long day outdoors. If you are traveling with a baby or infant, we are happy to provide pack-n-plays at absolutely no extra charge—just let us know before you arrive so our team can have everything perfectly set up in your room.
Wilderness adventures for all ages
When it comes to exploring the great outdoors, Mount Shasta offers incredible options that perfectly match different energy levels and age groups. For those traveling with little kids, Lake Siskiyou is the ultimate summer destination. Located just five minutes away from the Inn, it features a gentle, sandy beach area perfect for wading and splashing, while the flat, heavily shaded loop trails are highly manageable for smaller legs. Another excellent local stop is Mount Shasta City Park, which pairs a great playground with the headwaters of the Sacramento River—a crystal-clear, icy spring bubbling straight out of the ground that children find absolutely fascinating. If you want a quick morning walk, head twelve minutes south to Dunsmuir for Hedge Creek Falls. This easy, twenty-minute round-trip trail leads to a gorgeous thirty-foot waterfall, and kids absolutely love it because the path safely loops entirely behind the curtain of falling water.
If you have older kids and teenagers looking for a bit more adventure, a twenty-five-minute drive will take you to McCloud Falls. This trail beautifully connects three distinct waterfalls along the river, and Lower McCloud Falls features an incredible natural swimming hole that serves as the ultimate summer prize. Just be sure to arrive early to beat the midday crowds. For a stroller-friendly walk with dramatic mountain views, take the family to Castle Crags State Park and follow the Root Creek Trail, which offers a gentle, shaded mile with views of Castle Dome. If your teens want a physical challenge, they can tackle the steeper crag trails instead. Please keep in mind that dogs are not permitted on these state park trails, so plan your day accordingly if you brought a pet. Finally, if you are visiting in the winter, the Mount Shasta Ski Park is a fantastic, family-friendly playground without the chaotic Tahoe crowds. In the summer, that very same mountain completely converts into an adrenaline-fueled downhill mountain biking park for older kids seeking some thrills.
Local dining fit for family appetites
By design, we do not serve breakfast at the Inn because our town's independent food scene is simply too good to miss, and we want to encourage our families to experience it firsthand. For a quick and fantastic morning coffee and breakfast run to jumpstart your day, Seven Suns is our team’s top recommendation. If you prefer a tasty, sit-down meal nearby, Lily’s is a beloved local staple with a beautiful outdoor patio and a diverse menu that easily satisfies even the pickiest of eaters.
For an easy, no-fail family crowd-pleaser, you can head over to the Black Bear Diner. It is a fun bit of history for the kids to know that this happens to be the historic, original location where the beloved national chain was first born. If you are visiting during the summer months, The Garden Tap is an absolute hidden gem. It is a lush, vibrant garden nursery that transforms into a relaxed outdoor community space, complete with a fantastic wood-fired pizza oven where parents can unwind while kids enjoy the open outdoor atmosphere. For artisanal pies, great burgers, and an excellent selection of regional craft taps, the Mount Shasta Craft House is your go-to spot in town. Pipeline Craft Taps & Kitchen is another easy favorite, serving up incredible gourmet burgers alongside a massive craft beer selection for the adults. Lastly, if your family is craving excellent, authentic Mexican food, Casa Ramos offers a wonderfully welcoming atmosphere and a great patio spot that handles big family dinners perfectly.
The Practical Details That Matter
We want your family stay to be entirely seamless, which is why we have focused on the small, real-world logistics that make a big difference to parents. Children stay entirely free up to age eighteen when utilizing the existing bedding in your room or suite. Parking on our property is always one hundred percent free and located directly outside your room, meaning you will never have to haul heavy luggage, car seats, or sleepy kids through giant, confusing parking structures.
Out on the property grounds, our central lawn features seasonal cornhole games and plenty of open space for the kids to burn off the very last of the day's energy. Afterward, the whole family can wind down and share stories around our communal fire pit, which is open and running from dusk until 10:00 PM every single night.
Our front desk team lives here in the community, hikes these trails daily with their own children, and loves helping families map out their perfect day. Stop by to chat with us in the lobby when you arrive, or feel free to call or text us anytime at (530) 918-9292.
