An alpine campus with rare perks
Most community colleges are daytime commuter schools built around massive asphalt parking lots. College of the Siskiyous works differently. Sprawling across two hundred and fifty acres directly at the base of Mount Shasta, it routinely ranks as one of the most visually stunning campuses in the United States.
The geography alone makes it unique, but the school also breaks the traditional community college mold by being one of only eleven campuses in all of California to offer on-campus student housing. This residential setup transforms the campus into a vibrant, full-time collegiate community. Students come here from all over the West Coast not just to take classes, but to live, train, and study in an outdoor alpine workshop of mountains, forests, and rivers.
Driving the state’s first responder pipelines
While the college provides a seamless, affordable transfer bridge to major universities, its real claim to fame lies in its high-stakes vocational academies. The school is widely recognized as home to some of the absolute best emergency services programs in California.
If you drive past the campus, you cannot miss the five-story fire training tower. The college runs an elite, state-accredited Fire Technology and Paramedic academy that trains the exact individuals who protect California's wilderness and cities every summer. Combined with a highly regarded nursing program at their Rural Health Sciences Institute and a premier POST Law Enforcement Academy, the college serves as a vital engine for the state's essential workforce.
A living connection to the Inn
Our connection to the campus isn't just geographical; it is a core part of how we run our property. See our team on the grounds and there’s a high probability you are being taken care of by a College of the Siskiyous student or student-athlete. For years we have proudly employed these students, helping them balance their academic and athletic schedules with real-world hospitality experience.
Because of this close relationship — and our uniquely spacious rooms — the Inn has naturally become the preferred downtown basecamp for the life that moves through the campus. We frequently host visiting sports teams coming into the region to compete against the Eagles, providing them with the exact floor space and comfortable setups athletes need to rest before game day. We also serve as a familiar weekend home base for traveling parents, alumni, and fans heading up to catch a football game at Herschel Meredith Stadium or a performance at the Kenneth W. Ford Theater.
The college is a testament to the real power of California’s community colleges — an accessible, high-caliber institution that anchors our local workforce while training the next generation. The next time you head north from the Inn, take ten minutes to pull off the highway in Weed and see the campus for yourself. The view of the mountain from the campus quad alone is well worth the detour.
