Groomed Cross-Country Skiing & Snowshoeing

For a quieter, more meditative winter day on Mount Shasta, the Mt. Shasta Nordic Center is a hidden gem. This community-run, non-profit cross-country ski area sits on the forested lower slopes of the mountain, just off Highway 89, and offers 23.5 kilometers of beautifully groomed trails for both classic and skate skiing — winding from gentle, beginner-friendly loops through the trees to longer, more challenging routes for seasoned skiers.

It's a genuinely special place: in fact, it offers the only groomed cross-country ski trails between Bend, Oregon and Truckee, California. Beyond skiing, you'll find a dedicated snowshoe trail for those who'd rather travel on foot, along with classic and skate ski rentals, snowshoe rentals, and lessons for first-timers. Even if you've never clipped into a pair of Nordic skis, you can give it a try. A cozy base lodge with hot drinks, snacks, and warm seating gives you somewhere to thaw out between outings. Welcoming to all ages and abilities and refreshingly free of pretense, the Nordic Center is one of the nicest ways to experience the mountain's snowy, silent winter side. And it's only a short drive from the Inn.
